10 Ways You Can Become More Self Sustainable Without Land

Not everyone has land, but everyone can do something to help move forward in sustainability for themselves + the world around us.

1. Start a garden. Not everyone has “garden space”, but lots of things can grow in tubs or pots on your porch/balcony! Try salad greens, herbs and veggies!

2. Learn to can! You don’t need a garden (or your own livestock) for this. Hit up your local market or veggie farmer + grab your favorites! YouTube, blogs, books or your momma will have all the info you need to learn!

3. Forage. Doesn’t matter where you live, you can find something edible nearby. Grab a local plant ID book + get to looking! Ever heard of dandelions?? Food + medicine! 😁

4. Grow sprouts/micro greens. Easy to grow right on your counter or in your windowsill. And the nutrients are sooooo good for you!

5. Learn to bake bread. So much better than the preservative filled bread from the store. Better yet, give sourdough a try! If there’s ever a yeast shortage (again!) you’ll be ready to roll!

6. Herbal Medicine. Sooo many things right in our yards can be used as a medicinal. Find a good book, or talk to someone you know who may have some info. You’d be surprised at what you can learn!

7. Raise your own eggs. Got a little bit of a yard? Chickens don’t need much. Don’t have a yard at all? Try quail! They don’t require much.

8. Buy local honey. Not everyone can have a beehive in their backyard. But someone near you does. Plus, buying honey from someone local means you’re getting allllll the benefits you need to combat illness in your area! (I.e. allergies!)

9. Plant a fruit tree/bush. Switch out your greenery or landscaping for edible plants if you don’t have the yard space! A simple switch that will pay off year after year!

10. Support your local farmers! Not labels at the grocery store – the farmers in your area! If you need something, I promise there’s someone near you that has it ☺️
