I want you to bear with me for a moment. Pick up something that is lying close to you. Your phone. The remote. A water bottle. Your Bible. Stretch out your arm + hold it straight out in front of you.
How long do you think you can hold it there?
5 minutes?
10 minutes?
An hour?
It gets pretty uncomfortable, even if it’s something small.
In Joshua, the people of Israel were taking over these cities to take back the land which the Lord had promised them. They were to take over and destroy the city of Ai. The Lord told Joshua to take up his javelin in his hand + stretch it out towards the city, + the city would be his. Joshua stretched out his hand until all of the people of this city had been taken down. 12,000 people. How long do you think that took? Do you think Joshua got uncomfortable stretching his javelin towards the city of Ai?
I can guarantee that he did. But guess what? He continued to do so through the discomfort, because the Lord asked him to do it. This was necessary to claim the land of Ai, for the people of Israel.
How often are you asked to do something out of your comfort level? It may not be holding out a javelin until a city is destroyed, but what if you’re asked to get uncomfortable + boldly speak to someone about Jesus? What if you’re asked to get uncomfortable + pray for that lady in the wheelchair + claim a healing?
He’s asking us to get uncomfortable. He’s asking us to stretch ourselves + do new things so that we can further His Kingdom!
Be bold. Be brave. Be courageous. Be uncomfortable.
